The climate of Milpitas is similar to that of many places in California, a warm Mediterranean climate. Milpitas' most pleasant months are August, July, and September, while December and January are the least pleasant. East Foothills, Santa Clara, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Fremont, Newark, Campbell, Cupertino, Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills, and Union City are its California neighbors. All of the above-mentioned cities' centers are within 14 miles of Milpitas.

The city is headed by a city council composed of a mayor, vice-mayor, and three council members. Presently serving are Mayor Rich Tran, Vice Mayor Carmen Montano, Councilmember Karina R. The De Anza expedition was the first European mission to set foot in Milpitas. Pablo Vincinté de Sola, the last Spanish governor of Alta California issued a land grant to José Higuera, a soldier accompanying the expedition, in 1821. Milpitas' economy benefited after the Western Pacific Railroad arrived in 1867. Hay for San Francisco's thousands of horses became the primary cash crop grown in Milpitas in the early twentieth century. Hay production continued until the 1980s when the last acreage east of Penitencia Creek was built. McCarthy Ranch was the last piece of agriculture in Milpitas Valley. For many years, the McCarthy family had a fruit and vegetable stand beneath the current McCarthy Blvd. overpass. The city of Milpitas was officially incorporated in 1954.

For the residents’ education, the city is served by the Milpitas Unified School District. Some of the schools that serve under this district are Sinnott Elementary School, Milpitas High School, and the Rainbow Bridge Academy. During a typical year, the crime rate in Milpitas is 39.03 per 1,000 residents which is higher than the national average. The residents believe the city's northern section to be the safest. Milpitas might be regarded as a very appropriate city for families, with more than 80% of the population being married and 50% with children under the age of 18. The majority of city dwellers drive to work. The city has a median real estate price of $635,300, which is 55.2 percent higher than the California average.

According to the facts, Milpitas is a terrific spot to raise a family and settle down, with the city's lone drawback being higher-than-average crime rates. Milpitas has the feel of a smaller, more tranquil city, yet with all the advantages and one major downside of a larger city. The city has something to offer visitors as well, and as such should not be disregarded.
