Santa Rosa was in total awe. Every business in the downtown area was immediately closed as people began flooding into the streets, some laughing, some crying, and some. To a visitor, it must have seemed as if the community had suddenly gone quite frantic and mad. Ever since that happened, there hasn't ever happened again, and it is unlikely that it will ever happen again. Until someone comes up with a machine that transports everyone into the future, hurry on down to the Cavachon station to purchase a ticket.

Numerous cars were racing around the courthouse as well as up and down business streets. Serpentine, also known as party streamers seeming appeared out of nowhere, and wastebaskets from numerous offices, emptied. Excited youngsters were stealing the wastepaper baskets at the rear of the Press Democrat office. Then they threw the contents of the wastepaper baskets into the street, and trash was-sent across from many rooftops. An incredible amount of paper was strewn all over the roads. Then the newspaper was backed up into the gutters and was overflowing onto the courthouse lawn. There was so much paper in the streets that it looked as if a freak snowstorm had struck Santa Rosa.

They were racing through the downtown area, where the Fire trucks waving their flags. There were numerous vehicles (automobiles, bicycles, and motorcycles) in the streets. It was then when that a crowd of screaming pedestrians. Anybody who was in a vehicle that had a horn leaned on it. Every now again, an average looking person was driving by who wasn't blaring their horn. It seemed likely was that every kid on the street had a car. Probably every kid had a supply of firecrackers, which since 1943, had been banned by the government. They comigrated on the steps of the courthouse. Sobbing women, many of them were mothers or wives of the servicemen in the Pacific. These women offered their thanks to the good Lord while standing in their doorways. While in milling and mingled in the crowds of people, these women had tears streaming down their cheeks. Along with the others, these women were grief-stricken over their losses. However, they were extremely thankful that the lives of other sons were still alive. The terrible toll was some 19 men missing, of which some 82, from Santa Rosa, had died as well. Another 200 men from the county had also died

Several ministers, as well as a priest from Saint Rosa, attempted to establish a thanksgiving day ceremony in front of the courthouse. However, the crowd wasn't thrilled with that idea. Backfires sirens, and firecrackers sirens, backfires, and blaring horns were sirens, backfires, and firecrackers could be heard all over the streets of Santa Rosa. This clamor drowned out the sermons of the ministering clergymen. A Father named Raters was trying to give up and returned to his automobile and made an attempted to leave. However, he wound up being- stuck behind a colossal traffic jam
