Tracy, California and is located at the top of some rich agriculture land in the Central Valley, and is part of the greater Stockton metropolitan region. The community is actually a suburb of San Jose. There are several different faults in the Tracy region, which are considered very active and include the Carnegie Corral Fault, the Black Butte Fault, the Midway Fault, and the San Joaquin Fault, which provides the threat of seismic waves because it passes right through the Tracy region. Train services to the San Francisco Bay area are provided by the Altamont Commuter Express station.
Between the late 1860ís and the 1870ís the Central Pacific Railroad arrived in the area, and the community of Tracy was born. In 1869, the railroad completed a line over Altamont pass from Sacramento, through Stockton where it connected with a ferry to San Francisco, and found its way to the region. Next to the Central Pacific Railroad new businesses and communities were being established, which, in 1878, which expanded with the addition of a connecting line from Oakland. Tracy was founded as the result of this addition. A railroad director and grain merchant from Ohio named Lathrop Tracy was the namesake of Tracy.
The year 1910 brought the incorporation of Tracy as a city and the community continued to grow as a residential and railroad center in California. The addition of the first City Hall in the community, paved streets, and the installation of sewer and water systems soon followed the incorporation of Tracy. In 1915, the first irrigation district was established, which stimulated additional growth in residential life, industry, and agriculture. Soon Tracy was established as a first class city as the result of the establishment of churches, hospitals, and schools.
The community of Tracy is enviably located within San Joaquin County in the beautiful Northern California area. The community, just over an hour from the larger communities of Sacramento, San Jose, and San Francisco is located the center of a triangle created by three major highways, which are I580 to the south and west, I5 to the south and east, and I205 to the north.
