Crown Beach Memorial State parks is also located in Alameda and, under a cooperative agreement between the city of Alameda and the state of California, is operated by the Park District. In 2013, the dune and beach system was restored to its original 1987 footprint with a $5.7 million project†that pumped 82,600 cubic yards of sand†onto the beach. This park offers visitors and their families sand dunes that border a bicycle trail along its 2.5 mile beach. The beach is a great achievement of engineering and landscaping. In early 1982 the beach was restored with sand that was pumped ashore from a barge by a pipeline from the San Francisco Bay after water action and wind had dangerously eroded the beach. Since then, more sand has been added, and groins have been built to keep the sand in place.
