When it comes to home renovation projects, understanding the average cost can be helpful in planning and budgeting for the project. GVD Renovations, a leading home renovation company in Union City, can provide you with a general idea of the costs associated with a full home remodel as well as an exterior and interior remodel.
The cost of a full home remodel in Union City can vary widely depending on a number of factors, including the size of the home, the scope of the project, and the materials used. On average, however, you can expect to pay between $150 and $300 per square foot for a complete home renovation.
For example, if your home is 2,000 square feet, you can expect to pay anywhere from $300,000 to $600,000 for a full remodel. This price range includes everything from major structural changes to minor cosmetic updates, such as new flooring or paint.
If you're looking to update the exterior of your home, the average cost in Union City is between $50,000 and $120,000. This includes everything from new siding and windows to a new roof or landscaping.
Factors that can impact the cost of an exterior remodel include the size of your home, the materials used, and the extent of the work required. For example, if you need to replace your roof, the cost will depend on the size and pitch of your roof, as well as the type of material you choose.
For those looking to update the interior of their home, the average cost in Union City is between $10,000 and $100,000. This includes everything from kitchen and bathroom remodels to new flooring and paint.
Again, the cost of an interior remodel can vary widely depending on the scope of the project and the materials used. For example, a major kitchen remodel with high-end finishes and appliances will cost more than a simple bathroom update with a new vanity and fixtures.

Union City, California is located in the County of Alameda about 20 miles north of San Jose, 30 miles southeast of San Francisco, and 19 miles south of Oakland. The year 1959 brought the incorporation of Union City, which combined the communities of Decoto, New Haven, and Alvarado. Union City has a very diverse population of some 73,877 residents. Alvarado has been given the distinction of being California Historical Landmark (#503). In 2009, Union City celebrated its 50th Anniversary. The Tri-City region to the south are made up of the communities of Newark and Fremont. To the north, Union City is surrounded by the community of Hayward. In 2017, Union City received a new city seal and began to rebrand. In 2018 Union City opened a new Teen Center for the youth.
In 1850, two brothers named William and John Horner established the first settlement of what is currently known as Union City. In 1854, the community was named after the Sacramento River Steamship, The Union, which merged with the close by community of New Haven to create the settlement of Alvarado on the western side of the settlement, which was named after Juan Bautista Alvarado, who was the former governor of Mexico. Alvarado was also the first county seat of the County of Alameda, which was a designation that it soon lost to San Leandro. In 1870, the settlement of Decoto was established further east. The settlement became a hub for the railroad, and the Transcontinental Railroad ran through it. One of the largest streets in the community, Alvarado-Niles Road, connects the historical Union City district of Alvarado with the historical Fremont district.
Union City has an extensive industrial heritage and is a former steel and railroad community. The property behind the Union City Station was occupied by the Pacific States Steel Company, and is currently being redeveloped into the Union City Station District Downtown. Descendants and relatives of previously known Pacific States steel workers receive preference when buying new Station District housing as well as compensation. The Decoto and Alvarado neighborhoods both still have very active railroad lines that intersect both the West Side and East end of the community and were both former railroad hubs. Trains are a way of life in Union City and wile natives are waiting for freight and Amtrak trains to cross, while commuting through the community’s thoroughfares, they are accustomed to waiting for a while.
Decoto and Alvarado, the former currently making up the eastern side of the community, were annexation targets of the close by communities of what would become Fremont, as well as Hayward and Newark, during the 1950’s. They incorporated themselves into a single community in 1959. The new community was named after the Horner’s' original settlement, Union City. That same year the first mayor of the community was a man named Tom Kottayam, who was involved in Union City politics for some 32 years until 1991, when he retired. The population of the community grew to some 73,000 people in 2019 to from some 6,000 people in 1959.
Some 11,000 students from the communities of South Hayward and Union City are served by the New Haven Unified School District. The district consists of two six through eight grade middle schools, one comprehensive high school named James Logan High School, seven, kindergarten through fifth grade elementary schools, and one adult, kindergarten through 12th grade independent study school. The name of the New Haven Unified School District was changed to the Alvarado Middle School to Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School in honor of Philip Vera Cruz and Larry Itliong in 2015. In order to cut energy expenses, the school district is also investing in going all solar at all school locations. The school also has a new track and field and an arts center at James Logan High School.
The first post-secondary institution in Union City is the Cornerstone International College. The Purple Lotus Buddhist School is a Kindergarten through 12th grade school in Union City. Union City lies within the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District and the Ohlone Community College District.
Several transit systems serve Union City, that include the community’s own Union City transit, the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), the Dumbarton Express, and the AC Transit. In 1974, the Union City Transit began and currently runs nine us lines throughout portions of Hayward and all of Union City.
In 1972, the BART rail system arrived in Union City. The Union City BART station was rebuilt in 2017 and developed into the Union City Intermodal Transit Station. Another entrance is planned that will offer future connections to Multimodal trains. Union City is also served by a network of high-capacity streets, that have four exits on Interstate 880, which is also known as Nimitz Freeway, and by 2020, express lanes will open on Interstate-880 Freeway. Highway-238 also serves Union City and is also known as Mission Boulevard.
