The San Francisco practically stretched to El Camino Real during the 1800’s. Records indicate that the man who established the Bank of California, named Darius Mills, established his dairy farm on the El Camino Real. Before then the Indians constructed their canoes and teepees from the reeds that they collected from the marshes. When the Mexican Government took over in 1822, Sanchez continued to serve until 1834 when he completed 45 years of service and was retired, with pay and a grant of the Rancho Buri Buri, which stretched to Adeline Drive in Burlington from South San Francisco. He had become a landed gentleman and enjoyed the title of Don Jose’ Antonio Sanchez. On El Camino in Millbrae he constructed two adobes where the Travelodge is currently located. His great, great, granddaughter, named Mildred Wilson, contributed the 66 original Spanish Documents that were located in her trunk, and were translated by the late Doctor Frank Stanger while she was attending the College of San Mateo as his student in his history class.
