James Hardie ColorPlus lap siding from the Statement Collection is what now wraps this San Leandro home, finished in a clean Arctic White that holds up against the Bay Area's marine air far better than the old asbestos tile it replaced. Because the existing wood siding underneath proved sound, we were able to use it as sheathing and build directly over it rather than tearing back to the studs. Our crew added a layer of 1/4-inch plywood across the entire home as underlayment, giving the new siding a flat, consistent surface to fasten to. The result is a crisp, uniform exterior with the low-maintenance fiber-cement durability Hardie is known for.

After removing all existing window and door trims and prepping the high walls with proper safety staging, we installed HardieWrap weather barrier across every wall, set Forti-Flash rubberized flashing into the window and door openings, and ran metal z-flashing to keep moisture out at the seams. Openings and corners were finished with 5/4x4 Hardie ColorPlus trim in matching Arctic White for a clean, framed look. We also opened the walls to inspect for dry rot and repaired the damaged sections we found. To complete the exterior, eaves, fascias, porch posts, and foundations were painted with lead-paint containment and priming, the porch step wall tops were rebuilt over about 25 linear feet, and the downspouts and a gate post were removed and reset once the siding was on.
