James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding Installation in San Mateo, CA 94403
The owners of this San Mateo home wanted to retire their aging shake siding for a finish that would hold its color and stand up to the local climate. We stripped the exterior down, rebuilt the wall assembly, and reclad it in James Hardie fiber cement, giving the house a clean, warm exterior that's engineered to last. The result is a tighter, better-insulated home with a fresh look from the street to the entry gate.
Once the old shake came off, our crew inspected the framing for dry rot and addressed structural members tied to the siding work, then added Owens Corning R-13 fiberglass insulation between the studs. We re-sheathed the walls in 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength and passed the city's nailing inspection before any cladding went up. From there we wrapped the home in HardieWrap weather barrier, sealed window and door openings with Forti-Flash rubberized flashing and metal Z-flashing, and installed Cobble Stone HardiePlank lap siding from the Statement Collection. Khaki Brown Rustic Grain HardieTrim boards in a 5/4x4 profile frame the openings and corners.
To finish, we capped the pony wall at the entry gate with new Hardie board and set California State Fire Marshal WUI-approved Volcan vents for code-compliant ventilation. Downspouts and house numbers were reinstalled, and we hauled away all the project debris.
