James Hardie's Statement Collection lap siding now wraps every wall of this Pleasant Hill home, replacing the aging exterior that had run its course. We chose the Statement Collection in its primed form so the boards could be painted on-site, giving the homeowner full control over the final color rather than a fixed factory finish. The fiber cement holds up to our local climate far better than the original cladding, and the new horizontal lap lines give the house a cleaner, more consistent face than it had before.
Our crew started by tearing off all of the existing siding and trim down to the framing, then inspected the exposed wall members for dry rot and made repairs where decay had set in. With the walls sound, we installed a complete HardieWrap weather barrier and added Forti-Flash rubberized flashing around every window and door opening to keep moisture out at the most vulnerable points. New Hardie 5/4-by-6 trim went in around the garage doors and corners, with 5/4-by-4 trim framing the windows and doors. We painted the eaves, fascia, foundation, and the gable-area beams to tie the whole exterior together.
The job also called for some careful detail work: we cut back and refit fascia at the right dormer, removed and reinstalled the chicken wire around the base of both chimneys and the roof transitions, and put the metal and wood gates back where they met the new siding. Downspouts and house numbers were reinstalled once the siding was complete.
