James Hardie's Statement Collection lap siding in Monterey Taupe gives this Petaluma home a fiber-cement exterior built to handle the local climate, replacing the old stucco that came down at the start of the job. We tore off and hauled away the existing stucco, took down the back patio trellis, and re-sheathed the walls with half-inch plywood for shear strength before any new siding went up. While the walls were open, our crew inspected the framing and repaired the dry rot we found inside the cavities. We also walled in a side exterior door at the front entry, insulating and patching the interior to match the existing drywall with tape, texture, and paint.

Over the new sheathing we installed HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door opening, and metal z-flashing for permanent moisture protection. The lap siding carries the Monterey Taupe ColorPlus finish, trimmed in Arctic White with 5/4x4 Hardie trim around the openings and corners and 5/4x6 trim framing the double garage doors. We also replaced thirteen openings with Anlin Catalina new-construction vinyl windows - twelve windows plus a sliding glass door - all fitted with Queen Anne grids. The bathroom window got privacy glass, and five windows received Anlin's Noise Reduction Package. To finish, we painted the eaves, fascia, garage door, and foundation around the perimeter of the house.
