The owners of this Daly City home were dealing with an aging mix of dry wood siding and stucco, and they wanted a single, durable exterior that would stand up to the coast's damp conditions. Our crew stripped the house back to the studs, inspected every wall member underneath, and rebuilt the entire envelope from sheathing out. The finished home now wears a clean run of James Hardie fiber cement lap siding with crisp trim around every opening and corner.

Once the old material was hauled away, we checked the framing for dry rot and replaced any compromised sheathing with exterior-grade OSB. New 7/16-inch OSB re-sheathing went on where shear-wall strength called for it, followed by a full moisture system: James Hardie weather-barrier wrap, rubberized Forti-Flash at the windows and doors, and metal z-flashing above each opening. We added new foundation vents around the perimeter and gable venting where needed, including an octagon-shaped vent on the front gable the homeowners specifically asked for.

For the cladding itself, we hung pre-finished James Hardie horizontal lap siding in the 8 1/4 board with a 7-inch exposure, framed by 1x4 fiber-cement trim at the corners and openings. Permanent aluminum anti-moisture sheets back every siding seam, and the whole house was caulked and sealed to manufacturer spec. We also painted the exterior conduits and electrical panels to blend with the siding, then reset the downspouts and house numbers once the boards were up.
