James Hardie fiber cement was the right call for this Petaluma home, where the original wood siding had reached the end of its life and paint was no longer hiding the problem. We stripped the house down to the sheathing, replaced all the old wood trim around windows, doors, and corners, and hauled the failing material away. With the walls open, our crew inspected every structural member for dry rot and made repairs before anything new went back up. The finished exterior in Night Grey with crisp Arctic White trim looks new and won't demand the constant upkeep the old siding did.

Once repairs were complete, we re-sheeted the exterior in 7/16-inch exterior-grade OSB for shear strength and a solid base for the new system. The walls were wrapped in James Hardie's recommended weather barrier, and we custom-flashed every window, door, and opening with rubberized Forti-Flash and z-bar above the openings to keep moisture out. Over that went the full James Hardie ColorPlus siding and trim package in Night Grey and Arctic White, a factory-baked finish that holds its color far better than field paint. We also replaced all 33 windows with premium vinyl units and painted the overhangs to tie the exterior together.
