James Hardie Siding & Andersen Windows in San Rafael, CA 94901
James Hardie's CedarMill lap siding in Cobble Stone gave this San Rafael home a fresh, fade-resistant exterior built for the local climate. We stripped the old siding off the high walls, set up safety access for the tall sections, and rebuilt the facade with fiber cement that holds its finish far longer than wood. As part of the prep, we removed the pergola over the garage to clean up the front elevation, and we opened the wall cavities to inspect and repair dry rot we found in the framing before the new system went on.
The siding is 8 1/4-inch CedarMill lap in the ColorPlus Cobble Stone color, trimmed out with 5/4 by 4 Hardie trim in Arctic White around every window, door, and corner. Behind it we installed a full HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at the openings, and metal z-flashing along the courses to keep moisture out for the long haul. We also replaced 15 windows and one slider with Andersen A-Series units carrying Low-E 366 glass and argon fill for year-round efficiency.
To finish the exterior, we prepped and painted the stucco portions of the main structure along with the eaves, fascia, and foundation. The new garage door was left unpainted at the homeowner's request.
