Woodland, California was originally named Yolo City and is located in and the county seat of Yolo County. The community is located about 5 miles northwest of Sacramento. The origin of Woodland co back to the 1850ís when Yolo County was established and California was accepted as a state. Ever since the community began increasing in resources and population, it hasnít stopped. As the result of the efforts of a man named James More, the region was well irrigated, which attracted people to try farming. Because the soil in the region was very rich, this endeavor was quite successful. The community gained a federal post office and the following year the county seat was relocated to Woodland from what is currently known as West Sacramento. The community of Woodland is flourishing as the result of the recent addition of I5, the close proximity to Sacramento, and the addition of a railroad line.
