Siding Replacement & New Deck Railing Installation in Richmond, CA 94801
The front-facing walls of this Richmond home read very differently now than they did before. We stripped the old siding off the front facets of the main structure and up the chimney, then rebuilt those elevations in natural cedar with a fresh deck and railing system to match. From the street, the front of the house has a warm, textured wood face where it once showed worn, mismatched siding.
After tearing off the existing siding, trims, and skip sheathing down to the framing, we found and repaired dry rot inside the wall cavities before moving forward. New half-inch exterior sheathing went up across the front facets and chimney for shear-wall strength, followed by a Tyvek weather barrier with taped seams to keep moisture out of the new assembly. We then installed one-by-eight natural cedar beveled plank siding, a profile that holds up well to impact, humidity, and freeze-thaw swings while keeping maintenance low.
On the deck side of the project, our crew disassembled and rebuilt the existing front entry deck, raised the left and front sections to a 42-inch railing height with new two-by-four framing and half-inch CDX plywood, and reset the salvaged wood into the upgraded system. We also reframed the front door opening and set four new front windows and two patio doors into the rebuilt walls.
