James Hardie Siding & Anlin Catalina Windows in Richmond, CA 94805
The homeowners here wanted to retire siding that had reached the end of its service life and replace it with something that would hold its color and seal the house against moisture for the long haul. The original cladding had been painted, patched, and resealed over many years, with visible cracking and no weather barrier or shear sheathing behind it. We took the exterior down to the studs, rebuilt the wall system from the inside out, and finished this Richmond home in Gray Slate James Hardie lap siding with crisp Arctic White trim - a clean, contemporary look that should outlast the old wood by decades.
Once the existing siding and trim were torn off and hauled away, our crew inspected the framing for dry rot and made structural repairs where needed. We installed R-13 Owens Corning fiberglass insulation between the studs, then sheathed the walls in half-inch plywood for shear strength and passed the city's shear-wall nailing inspection. Over the sheathing went a full HardieWrap weather barrier, Forti-Flash rubberized flashing at every window and door, and metal z-flashing to keep water out of the wall assembly. The siding is James Hardie ColorPlus lap from the Statement Collection in Gray Slate, framed by 5/4-by-4 ColorPlus trim in Arctic White around the openings and corners.
As part of the same project, we swapped out 16 windows for Anlin Catalina new-construction vinyl units with the Infinit-e glass package - a three-layer Low-E coating that cuts heat gain in summer and holds warmth in winter. We also painted the eaves, fascia, garage door, and foundation, and resealed the stairs with an elastomeric cement-grade coating.
